When I started the The Last Cuentista, I did not know what it was going to be about or what “cuentista” even means. So, I looked up what cuentista means and found out that it meant storyteller. I immediately started getting interested in the book “The Last Storyteller”. What could this mean? What was this about? Why was she the last story teller? Thoughts were racing through my head and as I was reading the book, I learned what it meant and what the stories were. In the book, I heard many stories and I noticed that throughout the book whenever there was a story that story calmed people down, and also makes them feel excited. I realized that without the stories, in the book everyone would have no hope. Stories inspire people, stoke their imaginations, and provide excitement and adventure for the reader.
Making my ideal world was very fun! When you are making your ideal world, you need to have imagination and let your dreams guide you. I wanted my ideal world to be full of sweets. So I imagined chocolate waterfalls, candy falling from the sky, and lollipops everywhere. I think that when you make your ideal world, you need to be creative and think of everything you want and turn that into one topic. I was thinking of Halloween at the time, so I had candy on the brain. It really is incredible thinking of all these things and turning that into a world. It’s like one minute you’re in the real world and then, just by reading a story, the next minute you’re transported to another. It really is a great experience and a nice break from reality!
When making your own book, you learn so many things. For example, we learned how to print leaves and how to create things on paper. First, you grab a sheet of paper of any type, and then, you take your plant and put it under that sheet of paper. After that, you paint over that, and once you take the sheet off, you are left with the print of the plant. It looks incredible, indeed like a true piece of art. When making your book, you really get to experience fun with words but at the same time, you get to create art! You get to do whatever you want, pick any color you want, choose any plant you like, decide how big your book is going to be, how many pages it will be, and what shapes you are going to include. It is a great experience that everyone should love because you create something original and beautiful all on your own!
Overall, putting all of these things together, I see how books can inspire people. As a reader, we get to travel with the storyteller. As a writer, we get to create our own worlds. Making our own books was also a really great experience where you get to imagine, and create, and be a kid! It is a great learning opportunity as you learn about what you like or don’t like, what you think is pretty or not pretty, write a little bit and have fun while doing it! I really enjoyed all of the creating we did in these projects!
