6th Grade – Louise’s Life

Stocks

When reading The Westing Game, there was a character named Turtle. Her clues were SEA MOUNTAIN AM O. With these clues, she puts them into stocks and makes money. In The Westing Game, Turtle loses money and makes money too. When we were doing our stocks and choosing businesses, I chose Shake shack, Target, GE, and Nike. I wanted to choose businesses that were popular yet useful. I chose GE because it was useful to people. Making money and losing money was fun because you could learn from your mistakes.If you got another chance you could do better. Overall, learning about stocks was very fun and working with Mrs. Sprague and Mrs. Donnelly was great! I especially liked learning about businesses that my family uses a lot. For example, we eat at Shake Shack once a week and we have a GE washer and dryer in my house.

Overall, I was glad to learn about something that will be useful later in my life. I will probably buy stocks when I am older.

My Ted Like Talk

When I first found out that I was going to do a Ted like talk, I was nervous because I didn’t even know what a Ted like talk was. Going forward, I learned what they were and how you could learn a lot and that Ted talks could be incredible! I watched videos at home of people doing Ted talks in front of a humongous audience. I was amazed that there was a person up on stage talking about what they love, or how to do something, or learning something new, and doing that with such confidence and grace. When I was watching the videos, that person made me laugh, and I knew that I wanted to tell my audience why you should do something. I wanted to share something that I was passionate about and learn how to do a Ted like talk. I am so glad that I did!

I really enjoyed the process of making the talk. First of all, I liked practicing it in front of my peers. Each time I did it, I got better! Also, making the slides was fun because I liked finding the perfect picture! Another reason why I liked my talk so much was because I liked my topic. I learned that if you don’t like what you are talking about then you can’t convince the audience to like it. The whole point of a Ted like talk is not only to talk about what you enjoy, but also to persuade the audience why they should enjoy it. If you don’t like your topic, your audience won’t like your topic either. I learned to enjoy my Ted like talk and I ended up thinking that it was a great experience! The whole project was exhilarating!

The Dance!

When we were doing the dance for P.E , I was so excited! First, we had to choose the song that we wanted to dance to. We had to choose wisely because we were going to have to dance to the lyrics. We chose the song Levitating by Dua Lupa because we liked the beat and the music. We then started dancing to the lyrics! For example, when the lyrics were “ If you wanna run away with me I know galaxy for life”! We then would pretend we’re driving and made a “ for life” dance move.The dance was really fun and I loved that half the time we were improvising and half the time we had the dance planned! I was with my friends Siona, Anaya, Clara, Eve, and Michaela! We had great teamwork and we loved being together as a group! Overall, the dance was a great experience and I hope that other people thought so as well!

My Ideal World

In our world, there are thousands of problems. Sometimes there are solutions to these problems, and sometimes, there are not. So, I have found one. I am creating my own planet, my way. My planet will be a planet where adventure and creativity exists and where the most important thing is imagination! My planet will be a place where you can create whatever you would like and be what you love! My planet will be named Cocoa!

Cocoa is the most beautiful and tasty planet in the galaxy! Everything besides living things will be made out of chocolate or candy, be edible, and taste delicious! Even the rivers and waterfalls will be made out of chocolate. There also will be thousands of beautiful butterflies flying everywhere! There will be animals who will be at peace and birds that can soar free while looking at Cocoa’s moon named Sabrina! But, my sun will be so thin that the chocolate will not melt and the sky will be lavender! It will even have blankets and clouds made out of cotton candy! There will be beaches, deserts, and islands, and the deserts will look like real desserts!by

In addition, on Cocoa, there will be robots which will be on constant command and do whatever people ask! The people on my planet will have fun with each other. It will be the best planet in the galaxy! If hungry, donuts will rain down and whatever you’re feeling is what the donut will taste like! In my world, whatever you want you get.

On my planet, with peace, beauty, chocolates and robots, there will be equality! Anyone will be able to visit either humans, animals, or any living thing! Everyone will be treated the same and will get along. Indeed, my planet will be colorful, happy and filled with light! Whenever you want something, just call that out and it will come! What an exquisite and incredible planet! For all of these reasons, Cocoa will be the best planet in the galaxy!

Only the Wimpy Kid has no animal friends!

Wisdom Tales Project

In Language Arts, we had to make a project on a wisdom tale from a book called ‘Wisdom Tales from Around the World’. The people in my group were Louise, Sophia, and Elena. We made a scratch project and here is the link to it: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/754384288. We wanted to work together, and also do well. Sophia was in charge of coding, Louise made the buttons and Elena put in the facts. We chose the story Feeding His Clothes. It was about a man who wanted to go to dinner. When he arrived no one spoke to him because of how he was dressed and no one fed him. So he went home and put on some good clothes. He got all dressed up, and when he arrived everyone talked to him and fed him. While he was eating he fed food to his clothes. Everyone wondered and asked him “why are you feeding your clothes?” He told them that these clothes brought him here and they should be fed first. The moral of the story is “Don’t judge people on how they look.” This was a great story and taught us a very important lesson. We loved working on this project, and enjoyed working together!

Camp Hanes

Early Thursday morning, I stepped on a bus to head to King, Carolina for my Camp Hanes adventure. As I was choosing where to sit on the bus, I was so excited to go to Camp Hanes. I sat next to my friend, and we had front row seats to the movie. On the bus I really enjoyed singing songs with everyone.When we arrived at Camp Hanes, from the second I saw the volleyball net I knew this was gonna be a great trip. When we ate lunch, the food was delicious. After that while we were doing our activities,I learned that we were doing the hike and rock climbing next! After climbing walls and walking on a net, I couldn’t wait for the hike! The counselors were very nice and made sure that we had a fun time! It was very steep on the hike but it was worth it when we got to the top!

While we were hiking, I loved talking to my friends, and making new ones.I really enjoyed team building,and I think it brought the group closer. Staying with friends was great! When we got to the top on the hike, the view was magnificent. I loved the food and on the first night I loved the chicken nuggets. Doing team building exercises was great and the counselors were super fun! I loved making new friends. I also was really happy when we learned that we were going to be in a cabin with the Stanbury advisory!

Thank you so much for letting us stay at Camp Hanes! We appreciate your hard work and hopefully we will come there again!

Thank you for organizing everything,and making sure that we were safe and had fun. I think that the most important thing was teamwork!We overcame a lot of challenges such as teamwork and friendship. At first I was nervous to go to Camp Hanes but I think that this was the best DA trip. We hope that you guys enjoyed having us! Thank you!

My Finding Someplace Backpack

In a book called “Finding Someplace”, The main character is named Theresa but everyone calls her Reesie. In this book, Hurricane Katrina was happening. She was at her neighbor’s house with her friend Mrs. Martine. All of a sudden the house started flooding so they went up to the attic. Before she went to her neighbors she went to her house Reesie grabbed her backpack and put everything she would need in a hurricane. She put in important house papers, pictures, her grandma’s sewing machine, and some food. After that she quickly headed to safety.

If I was in Reese’s situation, I would put in my backpack my phone, my phone charger, and batteries. I would also bring cookies, popcorn and just junk food. I would also bring water, photos, money, a flashlight, passports, and a medical bag. I would bring my phone to call for help and just in case it dies I would bring my charger. I would bring batteries for my flashlight and bring my flashlight to see in the dark. I would bring junk food, because it doesn’t go bad. I would also bring water to drink. Another thing I would bring is photos of my family to treasure and money to pay for things. And lastly, I would bring passports if someone needs to identify me and a medical bag in case I get hurt. So to conclude I would bring everything that I treasure. If I really were in Reesie’s situation then I would bring all this stuff and take what I value the most.
